Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳǝḳa
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: female breast, teat
Abkhaz: a-ḳǝ́ḳa
Abaza: ḳǝḳa
Comments: PAT *ḳǝḳa.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳǝla
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: sheaf
Abkhaz: a-ḳǝ́la
Comments: Attested only in Abkh., but having probable EC parallels.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́ǝsǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: little finger
Abkhaz: a-na-ć̣̌-ḳ́ǝ́s
Abaza: mačʷ-ḳ́ǝs
Ubykh: q̇a(n)cʷa-ḳ́ǝ́s
Comments: PAT *ḳ́ǝsǝ, used in a compound with *ma-cʷa 'finger' or *š́a-cʷa 'toe' - in Ub., also a compound with the same root (PWC *c:ʷa ~ *ƛ:ʷa). Cf. also Abkh. Bzyb. a-na-ć̌-ḳ́ǝ́s 'little finger'; Abkh. a-š́a-ć̣̌-ḳ́ǝ́s, Bzyb. a-š́a-ć̌-ḳ́ǝ́s, Abaz. š́ačʷ-ḳ́ǝs 'little toe'.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́V(-ʒV)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to tremble
Abkhaz: a-ḳ́ǝʒ-ḳ́ǝ́ʒ-ra
Adyghe: č̣́azazǝ-n
Kabardian: č̣azazǝ-n
Ubykh: ḳ́ā-da-
Comments: PAK *ḳazǝzǝ- (Kab. > Abaz. ḳ́azǝz-ra id.); Ub. a-ḳ́ā-dá-n. The second part of the stem *ḳ́V-ʒV probably goes back to a separate root *(p)-ʒVʒV 'to tremble' q.v.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́ʷa
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: go, walk
Adyghe: ḳʷa-
Kabardian: ḳʷa-
Ubykh: ḳ́a-
Comments: PAK *ḳʷa. With preverbs the same root is used in AK and Ub. for the meaning 'to come'. Shagirov (1, 216) compares also PAT *nǝ-q̇ʷa- 'walk, move', which is impossible phonetically.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́ʷa
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: suffix of Nomina Agentis
Adyghe: -ḳʷ(a)
Kabardian: -ḳʷa
Ubykh: -ḳ́a
Comments: PAK *-ḳʷa, cf., e.g., Ad. Laž́ā-ḳʷ 'worker' (Laž́a-n 'to work'), Kab. wǝsā-ḳʷa 'poet' (wǝsa 'poem'). In Ub. cf. e.g. fawā́-ḳ́a 'wrestler' (fawǝ́ 'wrestle') etc.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷa-
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: axe
Abkhaz: a-j-ḳʷáʁa
Abaza: ḳʷaʁa
Comments: PAT *ḳʷaɣa. The word is probably a compound; the first part of it, *ḳʷa-, corresponds well to PEC *rä̆ḳwɨ̆, but the origin of the second part is not clear.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷa-
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 small river 2 ravine
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷára 1
Abaza: ḳʷarǝ 2
Comments: PAT *ḳʷa-rV (cf. also Bzyb. a-ḳʷár 'small river'). *-rV is probably a suffix (cf. an analogous suffix in Abkh. a-q̇ʷa-rá 'rocky river bank' etc.).
Proto-West-Caucasian: [*-ḳʷa / *ǵ(ʷ)a]
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 negative gerund 2 privative suffix
Abkhaz: -m- -ḳʷa 1
Abaza: -m- -ḳʷa 1
Adyghe: -ǯ́ 2
Kabardian: -ǯa 2
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷač́a
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: tail
Ubykh: ḳʷač́á
Comments: Isolated in Ub., but with possible external parallels.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷać̣ǝ (~ *ḳ́ʷ-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 entrails, intestines 2 meat
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷác 2
Adyghe: ḳʷac̣ 1
Kabardian: ḳʷac̣ 1
Comments: PAT *ḳʷaćǝ (cf. Bz. a-ḳʷáć); PAK *ḳʷác̣ǝ. In Abkh. we must suppose a dissimilative deglottalisation of the second consonant. The meaning 'meat' in Abkh. is obviously secondary (a-ž́ǝ q.v. was the original name for meat).

Different attempts to analise the AK stem as a compound (see Shagirov 1, 217 with literature) seem rather arbitrary. It is probably best to regard the root as a whole.

Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳ́ʷaḳ́ǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: corner
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷáḳ́
Comments: The root is attested only in Abkh., but has probable external parallels.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷaḳʷa-rǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: cake, cookie (made of dough)
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷaḳʷár
Comments: Attested only in Abkh., but with probable external parallels.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷalǝʒǝ (~-ʒ́-,-ǯ-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: armour
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷalʒǝ́
Abaza: ḳʷalʒǝ
Comments: PAT *ḳʷalǝʒǝ (or -ʒ́-, because the Bzyb. form is unknown).
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷatanV ( ~ ḳ́ʷ-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: plough
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷatán(a)
Abaza: ḳʷatan
Comments: PAT *ḳʷatanV.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷǝ-
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: kill
Adyghe: wǝč̣́ǝ-n
Kabardian: wǝč̣ǝ-n
Ubykh: ḳʷǝ-
Comments: PAK *wǝ-ḳǝ- (with a transitivizing prefix *wǝ-), Ub. 1st p. a-s-ḳʷǝ́-n. Despite a phonetic irregularity (loss of labialisation in PAK), it seems to us impossible to separate the AK and Ub. forms (which had been compared by Dumézil and Fähnrich 1972, 657). It is most probable that labialisation of *ḳʷ was lost in PAK under dissimilation with the initial prefix *wǝ-.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: handle
Adyghe: č̣́ǝ 1
Kabardian: č̣ǝ 1
Ubykh: ḳʷǝ 1
Comments: PAK *ḳǝ; Ub. def. a-ḳʷǝ́. Reasons for delabialisation in PAK are not clear.
Proto-West-Caucasian: [*-ḳʷǝ]
Meaning: imperative plural
Adyghe: -ḳʷ
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷǝḳʷǝ
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: cuckoo
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷǝ́ḳʷ
Abaza: ḳʷǝḳʷa
Adyghe: kʷǝkʷǝw
Kabardian: č̣́ǝgʷǝwgʷ
Ubykh: ḳʷǝgʷ
Comments: PAT *ḳʷǝḳʷV; PAK *ḳʷǝkʷǝw / *ḳʷǝgʷǝw. In Ub. Vogt notes also variants: gʷǝgʷ, kʷǝkʷ, kʷǝgʷ. Modern forms reflect various dissimilatory/assimilatory processes (with respect to glottalisation); otherwise the correspondences are regular.
Proto-West-Caucasian: *ḳʷǝḳʷǝ-
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: clew (of threads), skein
Abkhaz: a-ḳʷǝḳʷǝ́j
Comments: An expressive root; attested only in Abkhaz, but having probable EC parallels.
